AMAZON BIRDING AND PHOTOGRAPHY ADVENTURE
Amazon Birding and Photography Adventure
9 days in the heart of southern Peru’s rainforest
Discover the incredible birdlife and landscapes of Southeastern Peru on this 9-day journey into the Amazon. Thoughtfully crafted for travelers with a passion for birds and photography, this tour offers an intimate experience of one of the most biodiverse regions on Earth.
Our journey takes us deep into the Tambopata National Reserve, a vast protected area spanning over 1,000 square miles of pristine rainforest, oxbow lakes, and seasonally flooded forest. This mosaic of habitats is home to more than 600 bird species, 100 types of mammals, and an astonishing variety of plants and trees.
We begin with two nights at the comfortable Posada Amazonas Lodge, where we explore forest trails and river edges in search of Giant River Otters, caimans, and the elusive Dwarf Caiman. From the lodge’s canopy tower, we’ll enjoy eye-level views of colorful birds like Blue-and-yellow Macaw, Scarlet Macaw, Yellow-bellied Dacnis, and White-necked Puffbird. Nearby trails are great places to observe the spectacular Rufous Motmot, Pavonine Quetzal, and dancing Round-tailed Manakins.
The adventure continues deeper into the forest at the Tambopata Research Center, one of the most remote and wildlife-rich lodges in the Amazon. Here, we’ll wake to the calls of Screaming Pihas and spend our days exploring the rainforest in search of rare and iconic species. Highlights include a visit to the spectacular macaw clay lick, where dozens of Scarlet, Red-and-Green, and Blue-and-Yellow Macaws gather in a dazzling display of color and sound. We may also encounter species such as the White-throated Antbird, White-throated Jacamar, Black-tailed Tityra, and the striking Agami Heron at quiet forest lagoons.
On our way back, we spend a final night at Refugio Amazonas Lodge, offering a relaxed setting and more chances to observe forest specialties like Flame-crested Tanager, White-bellied Tody-Tyrant, Musician Wren, and Great Jacamar.
This tour is perfect for nature enthusiasts who appreciate comfortable accommodations, expert naturalist guides, and a leisurely pace that allows time for observation, learning, and photography. Whether you’re a seasoned birder or simply love the natural world, the Amazon Birding & Photography Adventure offers an unforgettable window into the wild beauty of the Peruvian rainforest.
