Pantanal photography tour is a nine-day wildlife photo tour in Pantanal, the world’s largest tropical wetland. It is located in the Mato Grosso state in southern Brazil. A large part of the territory is flooded during the rainy season (November through March), allowing the ecosystem to sustain a high diversity of wildlife.

The Transpantaneira Road is the only road that traverses the whole northern area of the Pantanal. This allows visitors to have the most complete experience of the Pantanal wildlife.

Our Pantanal photography tour focuses on providing guests the best conditions for wildlife photography, by taking them to the best-known spots.

The wildlife photography adventure begins near the town of Poconé. First, we will search for Pantanal specialties like Red-legged Seriema, Greater Rhea, and Yacaré Caiman. We have two nights at Piuval Lodge to look for Giant Anteater and Hyacinth Macaw.

Then, the tour goes to Pantanal Norte Lodge. Here, the targets are Marsh Deer, Brazilian Tapir, Red-brocket Deer, Giant Anteater, just to mention a few.

After that, we move to the Aymara Lodge. We will spend another two nights here, looking for Jaguar, Giant River Otter, Toco Toucan, Helmeted Manakin, Zigzag Heron, and more.

Finally, the Pantanal photography tour arrives to Chapada dos Guimarães. This is a unique destination for wildlife, and specially bird photography. We will have more opportunities to photograph Giant River Otters and Jaguars. Interesting birds to photograh in the area are Maguari Stork, Crimson-crested Woodpecker, Scarlet-headed Blackbird, and other birds.

From Chapada dos Guimarães we will drive back to Cuibá, for the flight back to Sao Paolo.

Birding and conservation: Cheqa Peru SRL, owner of Green Tours, will donate 50 US$ of its benefits per participant to “Asociación Green Tours” to support local conservation initiatives.

Your guide will be Raphael Santos. He has been guiding birding tours all over Brazil for a long time. He started birding seriously in 2001 at the university and spent a few years working at the birds collection of the main Natural History Museum in South Brazil, which gave him a great taxonomy experience. Since that time, Raphael also worked as a researcher in many important conservation projects and this scientific background gives him an extra knowledge to identify birds in the wild while guiding. He has published several articles and book chapters about bird communities and new records to different areas in the country. Raphael is a well known Brazilian biologist based in Curitiba. South Brazil - the Atlantic Forest and Southern Grasslands are his backyard, but his experience in Amazon Forest, Pantanal, Northeast and Central Brazil is also superb. His great birding skills associated with his kind personality makes him a very good person to travel with.
