First, we take a flight from Lima to Puerto Maldonado, the biggest city in southern Peruvian Amazonia. After that, we take a boat up the Río Madre de Dios to Los Amigos Biological Station, in the province of Manu. Los Amigos reserve has an impressive trail system that goes through different habitats. Target birds in the area are Black-faced Cotinga, Chestnut-winged Hookbill, White-throated Antbird, Rufous-headed Woodpecker, Zone-tailed Hawk, just to mention a few. In these pristine forests it is not rare to find high diversity of monkeys, amphibians and reptiles.

After those fantastic days in Manu, the Birding and Amazonian Wildlife tour goes to the Tambopata National Reserve. Once in the reserve we stay at three different lodges: Posada Amazonas, Tambopata Research Center, and Refugio Amazonas. We intend to spend most of our time at Tambopata Research Center, located in the middle of pristine forest. Our target birds in the area are Purus Jacamar, Peruvian Recurvebill, Rufous-breasted Piculet, Ornate Antwren, White-cheeked Tody-tyrant, and several species of macaws and parrots. Among other things, we will visit oxbow lakes with Giant River Otters, different species of Caimans, and probably Green Anacondas. Besides, we could spot jaguars and tapirs along the river margins.

The Birding and Amazonian Wildlife tour finishes in the city of Puerto Maldonado, where we will take a flight back to Lima. Visit the Manu and Tambopata areas can be the birding and wildlife experience of a lifetime.

TRAVEL TIPS & RECOMMENDATIONS
Weather: Most days in the Tambopata region will be warm and humid, with a mixture of sunshine and overcast conditions. Some rain should be expected, from brief showers to sometimes extended periods of heavy rain.
Time Zone: Peru is 5 hours behind GMT. Also, it is in the same time zone as US Eastern Standard Time Zone and does not observe daylight-savings time.
Immunizations: Having a Yellow Fever vaccine at least 10 days before your trip is recommended but not mandatory.
Electricity: 220 volts in Lima. The lodges lack electricity but a generator is turned on once a day to recharge batteries for guests or lodge facilities. At night it is very dark, so we recommend good flashlights. Light is provided by numerous kerosene lamps and candles.
Physical effort: People should be in good physical condition to do hikes in the humid Amazonian forest for up to 4 hours. Also, people should be able to step in and out of boats and canoes with any problem.
