Peru, land of the Incas

5 days tour

Day 1 Cusco
Pick-up from the Cusco airport and transfer to the hotel.
In the afternoon, our guide and private transport will take to a tour of the city. The first stop is at the colonial Main Plaza where we will visit the Cathedral church. We will then make our way to the Sun Temple, known as Qorikancha; this temple was one of the most important buildings in the time of the Inca civilization dedicated to worship the Sun God, it is said that its walls were covered with gold.
Finally, we will visit the ruins close to the city of Cusco: Q’enqo, Pukapukara, Tambomachay, and Sacsayhuamán, the later being the one of the finest architectural constructions of the Inca empire.
Overnight in Cusco.

Day 2 Cusco and the Sacred valley of the Incas
After breakfast, our private transport will take you the Sacred Valley of the Incas.
First stop is at the archaeological complex of Pisac, the name means partridge and the site has the shape of this animal. The site had a least a triple function: military, religious, and the terraces around the place indicates an agricultural use also.
After visiting the Pisac traditional market we will enjoy our lunch and then continue our journey to the Salinas of Maras, this site has been the most important salt production area during Incan times, nowadays the salt production is still important for very exclusive products.
Overnight in Cusco.

Day 3 Cusco - Ollantaytambo
You will have the morning at leisure to enjoy the city on your own.
At mid-afternoon we will pick you up from the hotel to take you the town of Ollantaytambo. Near the city there is an important Incan fortress surrounded by enormous stone walls, the site was used during Incan times as a storage city strategically located at the heart of the Sacred Valley. Today this is a living Inca town, with narrow stone streets that make it an attractive and relaxing place.

Days 4 Machu Picchu
Early in the morning we will take the train to the town of Aguas Calientes, the entrance gate to Machu Picchu. Once there, a shuttle bus will take us to the archaeological complex of Machu Picchu, known as “The Lost City of the Incas”. The tour inside the archaeological site will allow us to understand the high level of development the Andean civilization achieved through the Incas.
A supreme religious site, Machu Picchu demonstrates the superior knowledge achieved in astronomy and astrology. This knowledge was gained by measuring dry and rainy seasons through the solstices, and was essential for the development of agriculture.
After lunch we will take the train back to Ollantaytambo.

Day 5 Ollantaytambo - Cusco
After breakfast we will drive back to Cusco and then to the airport for your flight to Lima.

Travel tips and recommendations

  • Weather: Most days in the Andes are usually cold and dry, with a mixture of sunshine and overcast conditions. The Machu Picchu area can be warm.
  • Time Zone: Peru is 5 hours behind GMT. Also, it is in the same time zone as US Eastern Standard Time Zone and does not observe daylight-savings time.
  • Immunizations: No necessary.
  • Electricity: 220 volts in all cities.
